Pharmacy First Service (PFS)

PFS is the Pharmacy First Service which is running as an Advanced Service in community pharmacies.

The service connects patients who have a minor illness or need an urgent supply of medication with a community pharmacy. Only specific conditions are suitable which are below, they can then prescribe treatment if necessary.

Acute otitis media*

1 to 17 years

Impetigo

1 year and over

Infected insect bites

1 year and over

Shingles

18 years and over

Sinusitis

12 years and over

Sore throat

5 years and over

Urinary tract infections  

Women 16-64 years

The pharmacist has a private consultation with the patient, via telephone initially, and follows a structured approach to respond to symptoms.
